Welcome to my “Late Bloomer” Blog

If you’ve ever wanted to explore your creativity, but your dark side keeps whispering “I’ve never done this before; I won’t be any good; No one will like this; Blah, Blah, Blah” – this post is for you.

My very first art class was at Cherokee Junior High School in Orlando, Florida, and the instructor was the boy’s gym coach. (Don’t ask.) So excited to turn in my first assignment, I was crushed when he said I had no artistic talent and would be better off helping in the classroom as his student assistant. This from a guy who spent most of his days dealing with jock itch and athletic supporters. I promptly went home in tears and told my mother, a real artist and children’s art teacher. Weeeellllll, to say she was p***ed would be an understatement, and that guy was quickly educated on how to interact, not just with me, but with any young, budding creative.

Fast forward 50 plus years, and here I am with a collection of my artwork to put into the world. Yes, it’s kind of scary, but the enthusiasm and encouragement I’ve received have been food for the soul. And it reminds me of that quote by Picasso, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once (s)he grows up.”

So, here’s the plan. I’m going to keep collaging, painting, and stitching because it brings me joy, and each new piece will be offered on the website. I’m also going to keep writing and posting. In the spirit of authenticity, just know that I am not a rainbow or pink unicorn kind of gal although I always strive to be kind.

Here, you’ll find stories from my ongoing journey of self-discovery; slice-of-life observations from the perspective of a more than middle-aged woman; spot-on quotes and poems; inspiring conversations with people making the world a better place just by being themselves, and tons more goodness. Will it be mouthy and funny? Uh, hello, it’s me. Open and honest? Still me. Positive and hopeful? Yes, more please.  Fun, yet practical? From this bohemian soul with a bean-counter’s brain – count on it.
