HeART Full Self Care Workshops

You are worthy of the same time and attention you give to others every single day.

Did you know that making art or writing from your own experience can be powerful ways to care for yourself? Creating with your head, heart, and hands can lower blood pressure, calm your breathing, and reduce stress. If this sounds like the perfect way to spend a few hours, Tampa-based HeART Full Creative Workshops, designed to soothe, calm, and inspire, may be just what you need. Every few months, I offer a different art or writing project at a local studio, via the special email list noted below. Classes are kept small to encourage a sense of community, and all materials are provided.

Perfect for family caregivers, parents, teachers, healthcare and social service providers, or any one who could just use a breather from the challenges of life and those ever-growing To Do lists.

Bookmarks, Notebooks, And Prayer Flag Pins

If you belong to a book club or insist on using pencil and paper to keep lists, this workshop is perfect for you! We’ll be using a very cool technique to create bookmarks (the perfect little gift) and decorate the covers of these very cool lined kraft paper notebooks. You’ll also have the option to create some lovely little prayer flag pins - perfect to put on a scarf or blouse, pin to your shopping bag, or other objects to remind you of what’s important in life. Handmade Cards & Post Cards

Even though 6.5 billion greeting cards are sold each year in the US, there is nothing like a handmade card for that special someone in your life. The reasons to send cards are many - birthdays, friendships, a new fur baby, annual holidays, support and encouragement, or just because. And if you’re worried about your handwriting, don’t! Those notes are authentic, from the heart, and always appreciated. You’ll be making a total of 4 to 5 greeting cards/post cards (with envelopes). All materials will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring small photo images or other embellishments to personalize your work.

Mixed Media Prayer Flags

In the spiritual tradition of Buddhism, Tibetan prayer flags carry messages of peace, hope, compassion, wisdom, and happiness to the world. While they usually hang outdoors to catch the breeze and send those positive thoughts out into the Universe, you are welcome to place them in that special spot inside your home. We’ll be creating two of them using paper, fabric and decorative trims.

Your Words Matter To The People Who Love You

Leaving a legacy isn’t just about the money or possessions disbursed in a Last Will and Testament, and more people are beginning to understand that. They’re hungry for something more authentic and personal.  That’s where creating a Legacy Letter comes in. It provides a much more intimate inheritance for the people you love. By sharing WHAT MAKES YOU, YOU! So, a Legacy Letter can include:

  • family history

  • your life experience

  • the wisdom you’ve gained over time

  • the values and beliefs you live by

  • who and what you are most grateful for

  • your hopes and dreams for those you love.

This one-on-one workshop (90 minutes long) via Zoom will prepare you to create your own legacy letter for a loved one (s). Email me at judith@judithhenrycreative.com for more information.

The Power Of Writing: A Self-Care Workshop For Caregivers

Something amazing happens when you express yourself on paper and share it with others, and while writing may not change the actual events in your life, it can change how you deal with them. This workshop is not about writing the perfect sentence. It’s about getting your thoughts, feelings and caregiving experiences down on paper, with the option to share with others who get where you’re coming from; who may have the very same thoughts and feelings; and who can often make you laugh, in spite of your tears.

Note: Visit my Dutiful Daughter’s Guide to Caregiving blog and click on the Category of Writing. You’ll find some amazing work by members of the writer’s group I created for caregivers, called “Finding Your Voice.”

So many people tell me “I’m not an artist” or “I’m not a writer,” when they first come to one of my workshops. I always suggest they give themselves permission to let go of judgement, because it isn't about the perfect sentence or winning best of show. It's about creating from their heart. And when those same participants leave with smiles on their faces and work that is deeply meaningful to them, it reminds me of how much joy can be found in honoring our creativity.

Thank you again for taking the time to join us and for guiding us through the healing art experience you shared. … we enjoyed your goodness, wisdom and guidance. DW

Thank YOU so much for making it a wonderful experience.  My first thought was "I'm not creative and I know how much talent is in the room" but I walked away feeling very good about the day and my special creation. KF

The way you set us up to get our thought processes moving and got us started with the "how to" for those of us that have never done anything on a canvas, it was perfect! LF

As I write something, I'm thinking about it, which leads to finding a solution to whatever is troubling me. It's amazing.
