Just Be
The older I get, the more I’m learning to take things easier. For someone who has always been action-oriented with To Do lists galore, this is a pretty big deal.
Last week, after a few nights of insomnia, I was feeling exhausted on Sunday afternoon, but resisted the urge to take a nap. Practicing avoidance, I even went for a walk, thinking that would wake me up. It actually made me more tired, and I finally gave in. Sinking my head onto the pillow felt so damn good, and for about half an hour I just stared up at the ceiling, watching the ceiling fan go round, enjoying the silence. Getting up, I realized how much better I felt, and no nap was required. Apparently, to simply rest was all my tired body needed.
Turns out that "Doing" is not always the answer. Sometimes, it's simply about Being. Quiet. And still.
